DashcamMerge

Windows x64 · v1.0.2.2 · 678.4 KB · Free

Combine dashcam recordings into one MP4 while keeping the original video and audio streams whenever the source clips are compatible.

What it does

DashcamMerge is a Windows utility for combining many short dashcam recordings into one continuous file. It is designed for folders produced by dual-camera recorders and works recursively, so clips can stay in their original Event, Normal, Parking, Lapse, Front and Back folders.

The merge pipeline uses FFmpeg stream copy rather than intentional re-encoding. This keeps processing fast and avoids an additional generation of quality loss. Before merging, the program checks clips with ffprobe, reports stream compatibility and skips files that cannot be read as valid video.

Key features

Merge modes

Normal — default

Tries a direct concat to MP4 first. If that path fails, the program retries through a temporary MKV and then remuxes the result to MP4. The streams are copied rather than intentionally re-encoded.

Strict

Uses the direct concat path only. If direct MP4 creation fails, the program stops instead of using the temporary-container fallback.

SingleTS

Combines the selected clips into one temporary TS stream and then remuxes that stream to MP4. This provides a separate recovery path for material that behaves poorly with direct MP4 concatenation.

How to use

  1. Start DashcamMerge and choose a merge mode. Press Enter to use Normal mode.
  2. Select the source folder containing the dashcam recordings. The last used folder is offered as the default on later runs.
  3. Select the output folder. The program scans and sorts the source clips, validates them and shows a compatibility summary.
  4. Review the file count, first and last clip and any warnings. The merge then runs with live progress information.
  5. After processing, check the reported output path, output validation result and duration comparison before using or archiving the merged file.

How clips are ordered

When recognized folder names are present, clips are grouped in the order Event, Normal, Parking, Lapse. Front-camera clips are ordered before Back-camera clips. Within the same group, a 14-digit timestamp in the filename is used when available; filename and full path provide deterministic fallbacks.

Validation and output checks

FFmpeg / ffprobe

DashcamMerge requires ffmpeg.exe and ffprobe.exe. It first looks next to the program and in PATH. If the tools are missing, the interactive version offers to download the appropriate FFmpeg essentials package from gyan.dev, extract ffmpeg and ffprobe, and place them next to DashcamMerge. Internet access is only needed for this optional first-time download.

Delete mode

Delete is a separate cleanup mode and does not perform a merge. It recursively selects the supported video file types under the chosen source folder, shows the number and total size, and proceeds only after the user types YES. After deletion, the program can offer to safely eject the source drive. Verify the source path and your backup before confirming this mode.

Command line

The interactive menu is the normal way to use the program. Automation is also available:

DashcamMerge.exe --source "D:\IN" --out "E:\OUT" [--no-temp|--single-ts] [--delete] [--no-menu]
